Our first interaction with rural Gunagxi was an afternoon in a small village were we photographed a buffalo farmer. The village was just in the middle of rice harvesting and the roads were covered by freshly collected rice, drying out in the sun. We were surprised to see people, animals and cars walking and riding over the rice. Everybody was happy, collecting the food that will help them to survive during winter. A collective effort that will end up with many bags of rice in the village granary. It was a hot afternoon, with clear sky over the surrounding karst mountains. Our models were waiting for us, by the road. The female buffalo was still covered with a thick layer of mud; she was a bit annoyed that her afternoon siesta in the swamp was interrupted. The owner, a stocky man was dragging her by a rope. The rope, passed through the nose of the buffalo, gives the mean of control to the farmer over the strong animal.   Some of the best photographic opportunities come unexpectedly. After a brilliant sunrise at XiangGong Hill, the guide asked us if we mind an hour break in a small village close by. Him and the driver were willing to have a breakfast and he offered us to either joined them or have a walk in the local farmers market. Being Sunday people were gathered from surroundings to sell all kind of merchandise, fruits, vegetables, meat, live animals and various snacks. We decided right away to use this opportunity to explore something that we could not have a chance otherwise; normally a farmers market in a touristic brochure is a place crowded with tourists, selling overpriced merchandise, together with souvenirs. So seing a genuine local farmers market seemed like a great opportunity. 2017 was a pretty decent year in terms of traveling and photography. It started with a total let-down when our long planned trip in Iceland, supposedly the highlight of the year was cancelled last minute and we had to find something else in hurry. It was Holland and a chase for famous windmills; despite some decent shots in the few moments when rain was letting us taking camera out, it obviously didn’t compared to the marvelous Iceland.   The autumn brought 2 trips : North of Spain and Brittany coasts. Beautiful scenery, amazing geological elements and a so-and-so weather with few decents sunrises and sunsets. But few great photographic moments that we will always remember. Costline is probably the place where we feel the best and we always have good time facing the wind and avoiding getting wet feet in a growing tide.  The top is completed with few images shot around Copenhagen. I am writing this post few weeks after coming back from a great trip in Japan. We experienced lots of visually amazing places, especially in Kyoto, a city full of history and spirituality, however it was extremely difficult to achieve the images that we were looking for. Before the trip we did our share of scouting, unfortunately not as extensive as we wanted to; we had a quite clear idea of which should be the sunrise locations and which should be the sunset/blue hour locations. And few mid-day locations too. But things were not actually going as expected. We ended up shooting 3 early mornings, one sunset, one late evening (way after blue hour) and scheduling a day trip to Kobe for shooting its spectacular marina instead of fighting for a spot close to a temple at not so right moment of the day. But which were the reasons for not being able to fulfill our plan? 1. Mount Fuji, affectionately called Fuji-san is a symbol of Japan. It erupted last time in 1707-8 but is considered a still active volcano. It was a common subject in Japanese art, inspired many poets and painters and these days photographers too. It was added to the World Heritage List as a Cultural Site . Actually our trip in Japan was centered around Fuji. The first hotel we book was the one in Kawaguchiko and the rest of hotels and plane tickets just followed up. We arrived in the area after 4 days in Tokyo and it was a well deserved break from the urban rush. We also got a hotel with a room much larger than all the other from the rest of the trip cumulated. And with a beautiful view of Fuji, so we spent the morning in balcony admiring and photographing the mountain.
